My Weekend Recap: Nate Jackson’s SFCS, Sexy White Charity Event, & #TPOB

This past week, the hilarious Ron G, winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, headlined the SFCS. In addition to the success of a great show Ron G has put on in Tacoma in the past, Nate Jackson had a live taping, which surely took part in the selling out of the show. I enjoyed myself completely, though I am sure I can say that there were quite a few others who enjoyed themselves a little too much making it hard to fully enjoy the entertainment. The first act, singer Rocky Sandoval,  brought sexy back with a few r&b selections. He did the damn thing, I mean, he  DID go on the Ladies Night Out Tour. Following, we got a beautiful spoken word from a Miss Tiffanie Beatty, her inspiring words were just as beautiful as her presence and a breath of fresh air to the usual opening acts you see at any show. It seems to always be hard for the first comedian to break the ice, but guest comedian, Eric Murphy did a great job grabbing the crowd’s attention. All the way out from San Francisco, he got everyone warmed up for everyone’s favorite local comedian, Kevin Fredericks. With half a million views on just one YouTube video, Kev showed those not so fortunate enough to watch the videos why he should be up “next”. As a “clean” comedian, his jokes about his wife, kids, and church are incredibly relatable and often times makes you wonder if you are going to Hell for laughing at some of the stuff he says! Ron G came on with instant hilarity and showed off his club entrance and a tutorial on how to narrate your “sexy”. It was just incredibly embarrassing that he had to keep calling people out, “The Bar” and “The Birthday Boy”, to cool it so he could “Chase his dream” on stage. Needless to say,his set was cut short due to an altercation in the front row. Shout out to Mr. Nate Jackson for not cussing the crowd out for showing their ass on such a monumental night in his life. Overall,it was a great turnout and even better show. Considering that during the two years the show has been going, this is the first I have hears of any drama, I am confident it will be the last. The comedians even made light of the situation via twitter:

“In Tacoma they still fighting over stepping on shoes. You 30 & they were Phat Pharm sneakers. #StopIt” Ron G

Friday, I checked out the Sexy White Party Affair. It was a pretty cool event and definitely nothing like I have attended before. The main attraction kicked off at midnight, a lingerie fashion show of a local line, Jewel’s Fashion. The show was something like Victoria’s Secret Angel’s meet BET Rip the Runway. While a few local artists shut down the stage, 40 models ripped the catwalk and shook their angel wings. Proceeds of the event went to children with heart problems. Though their were major technical difficulties with the sound system making it hard to hear what anyone said about the performances or show it was nice to see an extension the club scene in Tacoma. Lingerie was available for purchase after the show and can be found online.

Throughout the tour I have been posting up the “Check-ins” from the #TPOB tour. This Saturday, the highly anticipated show at too place”HOME”. The line up was insane! GMK opened followed by, Royce the Choice, Eighty4Fly , Dyme Def, and J. Pinder closed it out. There was high energy the entire show switching DJs every set from a few known like Nymblepaws, Vega the Virgo and B Mello. There were a few favorites, a few oldies but goodies, and some new tracks performed by all of the artists! Special appearances were made by Aye Logics, Clemm Rishad and Spaceman. In the crowd you could find other favorite artists like William Jordan, Peta Tosh, Sean Symphony, J Bre and The Good Sin. This was most definitely a show not to miss. Look below for a flicks from the show!

My Weekend Recap: Making Our Legacy Known & Krunk 7

This past weekend I was able to go out and support our local artists and attend some shows. One was a R&b/Hip Hip  show at UW of Seattle, the other a dance show at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma. I really enjoyed both, but wished more people went out and supported the talented youth our town has to offer.

Making our Legacy Known was a nice treat out of the house on Friday night. As some of you may already know, I am a huge fan of Royce the Choice and GMK, so I definitely enjoyed their headlining performances. Sean Carson did a wonderful job singing a few familiar songs from his mixtape and interacting with the audience. At times it was a bit drug out with some of his comedic talents, but overall it was was a much enjoyed performance from Carson which included a sneak peep show of his A+ six-pack! Starting the show was an artist I hadn’t had the pleasure of listening to before, but glad I caught her that night! Jusmoni, along with a back up singer, set the tone with their melodic voice. Despite the audio disfunction and seemingly unorganized line-up, the event was definitely a fun and positive production.

Krunk 7 BFABB was an amazing production hosted by Reality Check. The is an even they put on every year and invite over 10 dance teams to come out and show off their skills. All proceeds from the show went to Reality Check youth outreach program. The host, JT, was incredibly funny and kept the show entertaining in between teams.  I was most moved by the four girls who did an interpretive dance about slavery to Beyonce’s I Was Here. Let me just tell you, I shed a tear. Above, is a video of one of the teams Krumping. I highly suggest catching the next production they have.
